AIMING FOR OUR GUNS

Bill of Rights, U.S. Constitution
President Obama strongly supports the renewal of the assault weapons ban and would back new gun legislation, the White House said Tuesday.

Jay Carney, White House press secretary, said of Obama, "He is actively supportive of, for example, Sen. Feinstein’s stated intent to revive a piece of legislation that would reinstate the assault weapons ban."

Carney also added that Obama "...supports and would support legislation that addresses the problem of the so-called gun show loophole, and there are other elements of gun legislation that he could support. High capacity ammunition clips, for example. That is certainly something he would be interested in looking at."

China Weighs In

Xinhua, the state news agency in China, which is the official voice of the Chinese Communist government, has called for the United States to quickly adopt stricter gun controls in the aftermath of the shooting rampage in Connecticut.
In Tienanmen Square the people had no weapons

“Their blood and tears demand no delay for U.S. gun control,” said the news agency, which listed a series of shootings this year in the United States.

As Chinese history shows, the only reason for a government to take weapons from its people is to ensure that the government itself stays in power.

Americans should not conclude differently.

Democrats Plan Restrictive Laws

However, Democrats want to take your rights away instead of addressing the issue of mental illness.

Democratic lawmakers called for a new gun restrictions on Sunday, including a ban on military-style assault weapons.

Senator Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat, said she would introduce new legislation this week. She said her planned legislation would outlaw the high-capacity magazines and military-style assault rifles that have factored in many recent mass shootings. People who own such weapons now would not be required to give them up.

Mark Warner, Democrat senator from Virginia, said, “I‘ve been a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights, I’ve got an A rating from the NRA. But the status quo isn’t acceptable. I’ve got three daughters. They asked me on Friday evening, ‘Dad, what are you gonna do about this?’ There’s got to be a way to put reasonable restrictions, particularly as we look at assault weapons, as we look at these fast clips of ammunition.”

However, Americans should not react based on emotions that derive from current events when it comes to the elimination or restriction of our constitutional rights.

The U.S. Constitution's right to bear arms will be staunchly defended, as it should be, by Republicans in Congress who say restrictions are a direct violation.

Louie Gohmert, a republican member of the House of Representatives, was asked on Fox News Sunday why Americans would need to own semi-automatic weapons, he said, "Well, for the reason George Washington said: a free people should be an armed people. It ensures against the tyranny of the government, if they know that the biggest army is the American people. Once you start drawing the line, where do you stop? Gun laws don't work."

Obama tearfully called for "meaningful action" to prevent further atrocities on Friday, but the White House has declined to say what measures he would support. They also failed to answer questions concerning the elimination of school security programs made by His Administration.

Dictator Obama?
Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, believes Obama should dictate gun control and bypass Congress. Bloomberg said, "It's time for the president, I think, to stand up and lead and tell this country what we should do - not go to Congress and say, 'What do you guys want to do?' This should be his number one agenda."

Yes, you read that correctly, Obama should tell this country what to do and not go to Congress.

Bloomberg is directly supporting the assumption of dictatorial powers by Obama.

A Cato Institute (CI) study revealed that lower murder rates in foreign countries DO NOT prove that gun control works.

The CI report said, "This is one of the favorite arguments of gun control proponents, and yet the facts show that there is simply no correlation between gun control laws and murder or suicide rates across a wide spectrum of nations and cultures. In Israel and Switzerland, for example, a license to possess guns is available on demand to every law-abiding adult, and guns are easily obtainable in both nations. Both countries also allow widespread carrying of concealed firearms, and yet, admits Dr. Arthur Kellerman, one of the foremost medical advocates of gun control, Switzerland and Israel 'have rates of homicide that are low despite rates of home firearm ownership that are at least as high as those in the United States.' A comparison of crime rates within Europe reveals no correlation between access to guns and crime."

The CI study also showed  that states that allow registered citizens to carry concealed weapons have lower crime rates than those that don’t.

CI found that the states that have “shall issue” laws allowing private citizens to carry concealed weapons have, on average, a 24 percent lower violent crime rate, a 19 percent lower murder rate and a 39 percent lower robbery rate than states that forbid concealed weapons. In fact, the nine states with the lowest violent crime rates are all right-to-carry states. Remarkably, guns are used for self-defense more than 2 million times a year, three to five times the estimated number of violent crimes committed with guns.

Easy access to guns causes higher crime, a basic premise of gun control proponents, is contradicted by the facts, by history and by reason. Let’s hope more people are catching on.
